Team Louisiana is very excited to compete in the 2016 Transplant Games of America in Cleveland,
Ohio. What better way to promote organ, tissue and eye donation than by showcasing transplant
recipients and donor families celebrating life together. Our courageous team is comprised of heart,
kidney, liver, lung, pancreas, cornea, and tissue transplant recipients, living donors, and donor families
of all ages and backgrounds.
Last year was a great comeback year for Team Louisiana; we had our biggest team since the 1996
debut. Team Louisiana came home with 9 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals; along
with a wealth of hope, gratitude, peace and strength beyond measure. We found ourselves flooded
with support from both recipient and donor families, honoring those who could not be there by
continuing to celebrate their lives through this awesome event.
In 2016, not only are we aggressively competing for medals, but we are striving for healthy living in the
names of our donors. We want to share, with anyone that will listen, our stories of struggle, faith,
promise, and most of all, love. There is a richness which only comes from sharing the Gift of Life.
When you donate organs, you are not just donating life; you are donating a lifetime of confidence in
the human spirit.
We cannot go without saying how much we appreciate our Team Louisiana Co-Managers, Debi Dumas-
Hicks and Kimberly Black, and our Steering Committee that meets to coordinate events for team
building, fundraising, and raising donor awareness. Their hard work is invaluable to Team Louisiana’s
strength and success. -- Written by a Heart Transplant Recipient from Team Louisiana 2014
